Guatemala is considered the country with the lowest educational level in Latin America. Plan gives a total of 1,000 scholarships to girls from 93 rural municipalities to enable them attending secondary school. In addition, workshops with local leaders are conducted in order to establish the scholarship programs autonomously and on a long term basis in the communities – the principle of self-help. A scholarship with these accompanying measures cost about 380 Euros.
